Still Waiting...

So day 28 and nothing.  Today's test was negative, twice.  I tested at 1pm holding my urine for 5 hours and drinking very little, nothing the last 2 hours.  My second test was at 7pm while holding for 4 hours and drinking nothing for the last 3 hours.  Am I doing something wrong?  I thought that originally until my temperature never went up.  Thoughts?  Anyone out there have problems with these ovulation tests?  I am getting the control line, which is supposed to mean that I'm doing it correctly and it's not an invalid test.  Oh well.  I guess before I was assuming that my cycle was 43 days (like last cycle) and that my luteal phase would be 14 days, perhaps mine is shorter. Anyone have really long cycles normally?  I stopped my pill in January and just assumed that it wouldn't take long for my body to regulate.  Either it's taking a long time or I just have a long cycle.  I'm going to start trying chasteberry today and see what happens in the coming weeks.  This herb is natural and is supposed to help inhibit the pituitary glad which helps bring about the luteinizing hormone that I'm waiting for to bring on ovulation.  It might not really do anything until I've been taking it for a month or so, but you never know till you try.  Anyone out there have any similar occurrences after stopping the pill?  I'm just waiting for my temperature to rise again like last month before my period but it seems like it should have happened already but most certainly in the coming 2-4 days.  Without a raised temperature at least I can assume that I haven't ovulated and haven't missed the opportunity this month to conceive.  I guess until my period regulates or if it stays like this, I'll only have two chances every three months.  My ob/gyn seems to feel that the basal body temperature taking is not really very reliable and suggests not even trying it.  It's helping me keep my sanity while I test with the ovulation sticks and at least somewhat reassuring that I haven't ovulated yet, so I'll continue to do it.  Any experiences anyone has had with long period after stopping birth control and/or experiences with chasteberry and/or reliability of temperature taking...I'd love to hear about it - comment below.

To begin, oh, where to begin...

Well, like my profile says: I'm a 26 year old who got married about a year ago and we're looking to start a family. We have now known each other for 4 years, we were engaged at almost 2 and married at a little over 3 years. Our wedding anniversary is approaching quite quickly but is still 3 months away. I have always loved and truly enjoyed children/babies, etc.  We started to discuss starting a family almost immediately after we got married.  I started at waiting one year and my husband at 2 years to wait.  We then started to discuss sooner when I became more impatient and decided that I wanted immediate instead.  So, then we agreed on stopping birth control in January, waiting for period to regulate (approx 3 months) and then to start trying.  We are both really ready now so we are both impatient together.  I stopped the pill in January and now we're waiting for my body to regulate.  It took 43 days from my withdrawal bleed (Jan 5) to my first period (Feb 18).  Now it's March 14th and we're waiting for ovulation.  I have been taking my basal body temperature (approximately 97.4-97.6 since period) and using OPKs.  I have not had a higher temperature and the tests have all been negative.  I am pretty sure that last month I did ovulate, but mostly and really only because I started my temperature taking (when I received the thermometer) at the beginning of February and from day 34 to when I got my period, I had a raised temperature.  So...I wait and wait.  I really expect my temperature to rise soon but even sooner to have a positive ovulation test.   I think that I should ovulate on Day 28 - but that's tomorrow and today's test was negative so perhaps that is not going to happen.
